Vacation Property
Vacation property should be redefined as 'oh yes property'. I
doesn't matter where or what it is, it is desirable because of
its function - leisure activities on vacation. It could turn
into an investment or a primary residence. Perhaps it's
called vacation property because you found something when on holiday
that sparked an interest in it in the first place.

Going
back 15 years or more, whenever we went on vacations, be
it Spain or elsewhere. Some time is invariably spent
on
checking out shop windows. Real estate windows...
It could be
in the mountains, or little
known places in Spain, by the sea, or in different continents.
Maybe
it's just our inquisitive nature. But, it's more to get a
idea for the
place you're visiting, see its buildings, and have a look at
the way
people live.
The
Internet has made life a little simpler to see what's a possible vacation property, but we still
like doing our own research, getting our hands a little dirty when we
get
to places.
Real estate is an investment, either for for
vacation or long term, so research and/or homework that you do
prior
to a
purchase is vital in order to pay dividends in the
long run.

The
decision where to buy is always a challenge:
Turkey,
Croatia,
Spain, USA, Australia, or closer to home?
THE COUNTRY
- would I have to speak a different language? how
important is that to
me? .. or maybe, the idea of it is a challenge I'd be willing to rise
up to?
- would I have to emigrate? What are the
requirements, and would I
qualify?
- around which point should I be saying
is the central radii of
searches... UK, Spain, USA...
- would I be willing to spend 5 years there on
vacations, or 10 years
there..
THE AREA
- is it easily commutable, or would I have to
travel 3 hours to get to
my new home-away-from-home when I reach the airport of my destination?
- is the idea of totally seclusion what I really
want, or would I be
happier if there were some neighbours close by?
- is it easy to connect up to town water,
electricity, phone line... if
the new home I'm considering doesn't have all three?
I
remember having the idea that it'd be really cool to own a slice of
paradise, like the Caribbean, or a little known place in
Spain.
But, real estate like obscure beach cottages, or a place in the
mountains of
Spain, with no
electricity, no town water, very difficult to put a phone line in etc,
pose a different set of challenges.

LAND/HOUSE/APARTMENT/OFF-PLAN...
- is it an investment.. short-term, long-term..?
- do you plan to spend only one and two weeks per
year on vacations,
or maybe the idea
of spending all your vacations, or living there permanently, there
greatly attracts you
- is it a retirement option, where you'll
spending a 100% of your time
there.. is it too quiet, too noisy, has it got a garden, have no
outside space because
you're on the 4th floor...
- do you have difficulty in climbing steps,
so a single storey flat/apartment/unit or ground level dwelling would be
more suitable.
- are there things for you to do as recreation?..
swimming, fishing,
skiing, bird-watching, lovely countryside for painting, walking,
cycling, horse-riding,
driving around discovering wineries, local produce, and homemade
handicrafts...
- is it cold in the winter-time.. too cold, not
cold enough..
- do you want a wreck to do up, or a turn-key
offering

GET A
FIRST HAND FEEL
On
many vacations, especially if it's to somewhere new, we generally
window-shop looking at real estate places looking for ideas.
Different
countries have slightly different ways to
market their houses/flats/apartments for sale. Some prefer
the
auction method. Others prefer you, the would-be-client,
to go and see the homes on Sundays where the home owner has an
open door policy from 10:00am to 5:00pm. That would mean that
you've
got pretty much an idea already of where your hub is.
Opportunities
exists everywhere. It's your choice to find them. We
started off with an idea of a vacation in Spain, and ended up creating
it.
Perleta
Magic is a very central location for exploring Alicante and Murcia
regions for a vacation property, or just to get a feel for the area.
A NOTE ON OUR AREA Regarding the Micro-Climate Diamond area, as descibed on the weather page, it is an undulating urbo-rural
coastal plain, from the hills behind Elche to the Mediterranean in
a very gentle slope down to the sea. Urban as there are pockets
of houses dotted all around, most are country/summer houses, and have a
decent block of land, either minutes from a village or maximum 10
minutes from either Santa Pola or Elche. The MCD supports
low-level horticulture, like almonds, oranges, grapes, pomegranates,
and some cropping, hence the coined phrase urbo-rural.
Alicante
continues to expand, as does Elche - the Elche industrial park is being
doubled in size, the new fast train from Madrid is on track to be
finished in 2010, and of course the new airport terminal completes
soon. Despite the downturn, there is a net inflow of Spaniards here
from the interior regions.
