Firepit a.k.a. the CrocPit
Firepit is a popular backyard item in North America. But with a crocodile? Let me explain...
Having
seen an effective but basic variation in a South African game park, I
thought we could build something slightly
different in our back yard. The
usual process with a vacation idea is to roll it
around a little and perhaps add something, or change its colour. The
design process really hit the afterburners, and what
we
created was, well a bit like starting with Sputnik and
getting
the U.S.S. Enterprise.
And we call it the CrocPit... because it has a crocodile logo
(Australian). It
is unique in Spain. It is unique in Europe. Maybe
we can
call it the 14th wonder of the world, since google says there are only
13 at the moment. Either way, it was a lot
of fun to create and it has turned out to be a great addition
to Perleta
Magic.
Built
to exacting standards, it has many uses.
The crocodile logo moves in the sunshine, so children tend to
stay away from its mouth.

Some uses
other than a
firepit: barbecue, sound shell, outdoor
cinema, relaxation area, e.g. read a book...
[Sound Shell: perfect acoustics - a small stereo sounds a lot bigger
than it is] |
The fire
hole is about a metre wide and a
metre deep.
The first practical use is as a firepit.
Here at Perleta
Magic, a
typical winters day has lots of sun and about 20°C
(68°F),
but once the sun disappears over the horizon it can
dip to
less than 5°C (41°F).
Hence light
up a few pine logs, and cosy up to your nearest
and dearest with a hot mug of mulled wine (gluhwein fur unsere
deutschsprachigen Freunde)...
The other
obvious use is as a rather large open barbecue - have at
least 30 people over.

It's
brilliant for an outdoor audio-visual
experience... not everyone has a starlight ceiling in their home
cinema...
A DVD or live broadcast in the evening...
Warning,
Warning Dr. Smith!!
: the CrocPit has devilishly-good acoustics... the subwoofer
might actually blow your socks off...

It can also be used as a cooking location; presentation or
training/instruction.
Or perhaps
just somewhere a little different to whip up a treat.
